How to Use RedNote in English

An English interface helps you navigate. Reading Chinese posts, comments, and screenshots can require a separate translation step.

1. Check the interface language

The official iOS listing includes English among its supported languages. That does not mean every post, embedded image, video, or comment has an English version, and it does not confirm identical behavior on Android.

In your app, look for the profile area, then a menu or settings control. Use the labels below to recognize a language option if your version offers one. Choose English when available. If the option is absent, use the translation routes in this guide instead of assuming that a fixed sequence of taps will work on every device.

2. Read posts and comments

If RedNote displays a Translate control or 翻译 beside a post or comment, use that control and compare the result with the original. If you can select and copy the text, you can also paste the relevant sentence into a translation tool.

If no translation control is visible or the words are inside an image, capture that part of the screen and use image translation. A picture’s caption and the text drawn inside the picture are separate pieces of content; translating one may leave the other unchanged.

Machine translation can miss sarcasm, product names, and slang. Preserve the original Chinese when you need to look up a phrase. Our six-term slang guide includes context that a literal translation can miss.

3. Translate a screenshot on iPhone

Apple documents translation of text in photos through Live Text. On a supported device and language:

  1. Take a screenshot of the passage you want to read and open it in Photos.
  2. Tap the text-detection control, then select the Chinese text. Adjust the selection handles to include the full sentence.
  3. Choose Translate. Select English if you are prompted for a destination language.

If text detection is unavailable, check Settings → General → Language & Region → Live Text. Support varies by language and region. A clearer image or a closer crop can make small characters easier to recognize.

4. Translate a screenshot on Android

Google’s image translation instructions describe importing an existing image:

  1. Capture the text you need, then open the Google Translate app.
  2. Set the source to Chinese or Detect language, and the destination to English.
  3. Choose Camera, then the saved-images control, and select your screenshot.
  4. Read the translated passage alongside the original image. Recheck small, decorative, or partially covered characters.

Before sharing an image with a translation service, crop out private messages, phone numbers, or verification codes that are not part of the text you want to translate.

Try a specific topic rather than a broad word: a place, an item, and the question you want answered. Searching in English may be useful; adding a relevant Chinese term can help you explore Chinese-language posts too. These are example search phrases, not ranking or reach guarantees:

When replying through a translator, write a short sentence with one clear question. For example:

请问,这个在哪里可以买到?谢谢!

“May I ask where I can buy this? Thank you!”

Keep model numbers, place names, and sizes unchanged when they identify something precisely. If a translation sounds odd, ask the author to clarify instead of treating the English wording as exact.
